Hi! I'm Sue Lemoine.
I’m so glad you found my website! I’m a Licensed Holistic Nutrition Practitioner (LHNP), professionally trained from holistic health care professionals at the Nutraphoria School of Holistic Nutrition, where I received an Advanced Holistic Nutrition Diploma. I have also received my LHNP license from the Canadian Association for Integrative Nutrition, which is our Canadian governing body.
Let me tell you a little about myself and why I decided to be a holistic health coach.
My health journey started in high school. I ate a lot of CRAP (carbonated, refined, artificial and processed) food and as a result, I was overweight, unhappy with how I looked, and hated how I felt. I was tired and moody all the time, had no energy to do anything and I was sick ALL THE TIME! I tried all the latest diet fads, which of course worked short term, but because my habits didn’t change, I entered the yo-yo dieting cycle that lasted for years.
It wasn’t until my two daughters were in organized sports that I started to really research clean eating, not only for me, but for them. They needed the energy that whole foods gave them to train and compete in high level sports. The change in all of us was amazing!
When my dad passed away of cancer in 2013, my life changed forever. Not only did I lose one of my greatest pillars of strengths, but that is when I dug deep into the causes, prevention and treatment of cancer. What I revealed horrified me.
My research journey led me to the root of all sickness – CRAP food. We must nourish our bodies with whole, clean foods so they can rebuild strong cells and tissues, leading to the most important thing of all — good health and longevity. It’s amazing what it feels like now to have energy to get out of bed, do my morning workout, and have lots of energy to get me to the end of the day. Clean eating did that for me. I realized that I wanted to share my knowledge and to tell others not to give up hope, that they, too can feel awesome every day, with energy they didn’t know they had.
Let me tell you a story…
When I was younger and overweight, I didn’t even think about eating heathy. It was all about eating quick snacks between my classes and my after school job, and eating the junk food my peers were eating. I didn’t know that my tiredness, lack of concentration and my roller-coaster moods were because of the food I ate.
The sugar and salt alone were a huge contributor of my water retention, which helped in making me appear larger than I actually was. I felt “puffy” all the time.
Hitting Rock Bottom...
Back then, I turned toward food – especially candy, ice cream, chips and cookies and because my body was so exhausted and malnourished, it craved more sugar and salt. I relied on sodas and sugary iced and hot lattes to keep me going. My idea of a “meal” was going to the vending machine for a bag of cheezies!
I found myself 50 pounds overweight and HATING myself for it. Even worse, I felt exhausted, sick, and moody all the time. I never had any energy. My digestion and immune systems were a mess, and I couldn’t understand why I always had a cold. It seemed I would just get rid of one, and a couple weeks later I would be sick with another one. It was my body’s way of telling me that I needed to do something.
I realized that my weight and all the symptoms I faced every day were keeping me from being the person I dreamed of being. I was so tired of being tired.
Real Healthy Clean Food
I started taking a much closer look at what I was actually eating. I started to do some "real" research on food, not just relying on random blogs and articles. It completely changed the way I looked at calories; a calorie is not "just" a calorie.
Calories are made up of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, sugar, and so on. I found that a higher intake of greens and colourful fruits and vegetables meant I was getting more of the good vitamins and minerals my body was craving. It would also curb my hunger more effectively than a sports bar, which happens to be high in sugar and fat.
Once I made this realization, eating clean became something I desired. I no longer felt like I was depriving myself of food or enforcing extreme calorie restrictions on my body.
I was just eating real, healthy, clean food.
I went from feeling like I’d never get my health back on track, to a body that had never been in better health.
